Hi, im trying to get my PADI divemaster stuff done and outa the way, my instructor is making me come up with an emergency plan for Centennial Beach, Barrie, now i need to find the closest recompression chamber, and the nearst hospital, in addition i need to find a map of the dive site which would show a diver the depth, entery, exit, and facilities. If anyone out there has ever done anything like this, please drop me a line and share a few pointers. Thanks!

There isn't much that can't be found by using google. Obviously, the one place you should look, would be on the DAN (Divers Alert Network). While they don't list chamber locations, they do have several pages of helpful information.

I also found a listing of chambers in Canada.

Of course, I will leave the rest to you, can't do all the work for ya.

Welcome to the board!

Sorry I can't help seeing I'm in Thunder Bay.

Good luck on finding the info you need.

Hi, i am currently trying to get my PADI dmaster stuff outta the way, my instructor is making me come up with an emergency plan for Centennial Beach, Barrie, Ontario, i need to know where the nearst recompression chamber and hospital are located, and also need to find a specific map that could indicate where the easiest entery and exit to the water is, including depth, bottom shape, and facilities (i.e coffee, convenience store, gas station etc.) if thres anyone out there who has done somtin like this before in their careers please drop me a line, it would be very much appreciated.. thank you!

Call DAN for any chamber location info. They'll be happy to talk with you even if you're not a member.

There is a new chamber at the Toronto General hospital. There are also three more chambers owned by local commercial diving companies in the Toronto harbor area and two privately mobile Drager system owned by a dive gear collector in Scarborough and one in Hamilton.

Co-Op,
May I offer you a heaty "WELCOME" to the ScubaBoard.
Having said that, I think by having someone else provide you with all the necessary information regarding an evacuation plan and dive site map you are effectively negating the whole purpose of the exercise.

Preparing a dive site map, for one thing, is an exercise in task loading that is intended to exhibit the proper skill levels in navigation, buoyancy, planning etc.

This is something you should really do for yourself. If you don't do this by yourself I think you will have cheated yourself out of some excellent experiences.

Just my 2 psi.

There is also a chamber located at the commercial diving training center at Humber college in King city and several at DCIEM donsview air force base.

I think the Kraken is right tho, if i'm gona go ahead and use all the info u guys have provided for me i really havn't done much to improve my skills as a responsible dive master, which i would like someday to be. So im just going to keep searching on my own until i find something i can use, but for now everyone made me realize how helpful people on the board can be! Thank You!

Good luck and remember not every instructor out there a good teacher regardless of teaching standards. I have seen most dive shop operators use guys like you as tools to carry and do all the work. Remember you paid to be taught not to run a dive shop and to have chaice the guy for your cert card for months. I personaly think the dive master program is a joke as I havn't met to many that know what &^%&^% there doing, but hay you may be the first.

Good luck

Mapping the dive site is part of your divemaster training. If you need some advice as far as how to get started, your instructor should be giving you some guidelines about what he's looking for in the completed map. For mine I had to produce a map detailed enough to give a thorough dive briefing from the surface noting all important directions, distances, depths and structures.

Mapping is probably one of the most time-consuming sections of the course and will probably require several dives on the site. I recommend a compass, wet notes and a reel with knots at appropriate points to mark distance. Good luck!
