Hi,

I'm Alex, 48, certified in the PNW but never diving in these cold waters again :)

I prefer to dive in 1.5-3mm suits and 70+ F temps, basically means I travel to the Pacific or Asia to scratch my diving itch.

Next goal is to get my kids into diving - would appreciate any recommendations on family friendly warm climate dive resorts where they can learn.

Welcome. A key question is where you want these warm water dive resorts to be. A family dive resort for training newbies probably needn't entail a multi-hour trip overseas; the Caribbean has a number of places.

I suspect good shore diving might be a nice feature for people taking the basic OW course. If so, you might consider Bonaire, Curacao, CocoView Resort in Roatan, or one of the Cozumel operations with onsite shore diving (e.g.: Blue Angel). I haven't taken courses at any of those; I'm just thinking about places with shore diving that'd let people enter and exit more under their own power, without needing to exit off a dive boat, likely a boat taking out other divers and thus on a more rigid time schedule.

thanks for the recommendations, am checking them out.
