Hi I just started getting into diving I will be signing up for a Padi dive master course soon and just got my first BC it is a Zeagle Ranger with ss1 safe second. right now I am just trying to piece together a goood set of gear.

Just started diving and signing up for DM allready ??
Maybe you should get some REAL diving done first.

But welcome anyway :)

And speaking as an instructor, and you being a DM candidate, I would not be happy with the SS1

The SS1 is great for my recreational diving, but when working with students having a traditional octopus is handy. It is familiar to them as it is common to the rental gear they typically use. Just like most aspects of diving it is generally your personal preference. I have the safe secong on my reg, but will add the octopus whe assisting with classes.

I agree, when diving on your own( with a buddy), and when used in the right way. The SS1 and the likes do have a function.
But since OP was going for DM  I would not recommend such a toy. :shakehead:

I do plan to use a traditional octo however this is just how the BC was set up already when I got it I didnt choose the ss1 it was just included in the price. also the DM course I am going to attend is going to take some time for me to complete I will be going through all the levels slowly and geting plenty of dives in before completing this course.
