I am new to this group! We [-][/-]are planning a trip to New Zealand next Nov. We will be there for 5 weeks and be doing some other adventures as well, but want to dive northern NZ while there. Any suggestions on what to take, where to stay or who to dive with is welcome? I have heard Poor-Knights Island is pretty amazing.
Thanks in advance for any info...I have 10 months to make this a trip of a lifetime....

hi erasergal and welcome to the forum.

the poor knights is certainly amazing - and you have the option of day diving or doing a liveaboard trip. which is your preference?
there are many great operators out of tutukaka which is the small town with the marina that most of the boats leave for the poor knights from.
operators to check out are yukon charters, dive! tutukaka, poor knights divers
places to stay are easy to find too.

if you want to PM me, i can help you further if you want to give me some idea of dates and the things you want to do whilst you are here (e.g. photography, wreck diving etc)

Hi There,

Definately the Knights. Hen and Chicks are worth a dive if based out of Whangarei. Further south the Aldermans, and Mercury Islands are wicked as well. The Aldermans at that time you may have the pleasure of some Orca or Bronzies. This is on the Coromandel Peninsula. Plenty of places to walk of a beach for some great shore diving.
At a guess the water temp at that time is likely to be between 16 and 18 degrees celcius.

Good luck and hope you enjoy your trip.

Brent
