Hello. My name is Sam. My wife and I just completed my OW certification. I am a big reader and tech guy. I sometime over analyze but work through things methodically, so bear with me. I can be little hard headed at time.

I am getting into diving with my wife, so we can plan our vacations around activities. We don't drink or like to lay around so much. We haven't learned to enjoy the sun laying down, either. Even worse, I hate don't enjoy being a shopping at over priced vacation spots for my wife. I did a lot of boat fishing in the past, and wife's interest in scuba and photography help us make the decision to plunge in a quick one.

Our original plan was to work upto a tropical destination(Hawaii was our number 1 choice) late fall. But since our dive shop has a 10day Barbados trip in december, we are thinking that might be a better trip. To go, we need to be AOW certified, but since my wife is very very dependent on me and can be excitable easily(and just as easily shocked and scared), I have set my goals to at least go through rescue diver certification to get the skills.

Let's see, what else... We live in sunny Southern California. Eventhough we are both Navy vets, my wife gets sea sick without bonine, I'm hardcore and love rough seas.

So far, she loves it. I am learning to love her pink fins(I followed her to not lose sight of her). My wallet loves it, too. For reason beyond my comprehension, it doesn't like money :( Surprisingly, my wife is a very interested in local sites. So, once we get all our gears and have logged a lot more dives, I guess we'll be out more.

Since we have some more training to do, we decided to buy the major equipments after each mile stones. We want to buy the stuff like lights, SMB and spools as needed for AOW classes.

Before we get another full weeked off, we are planning on some more dives on Sundays.

I'm getting my hollis solo bp/w tomorrow and my wife already has the lotus i3.

I thank everyone here for such invaluable information so far. I spent hours upon hours reading through just for BCDs. I can't wait to read about the really important stuff. Thanks again.

Sam and Christie

You seem very enthusiastic about diving, with plenty of planning. California has a lot of great diving. You'll find soon that renting gear/tanks (and training) will put a huge strain on your wallet, so you might look into purchasing gear soon (online or through your LDS).

Get in a lot of local dives in, work on your buoyancy, and maybe by December, you'll have good enough multi-tasking and buoyancy to manage a camera for your trip.

Hello everyone, Here i am a new member and it is a great forum to communicate with people. I really glad to join in this forum.

Welcome aboard!!!
Glad you're getting involved and wet in SoCal....It may be cool/cold water but it is one of the best places to dive in the world. (IMHO)
See that you already found the local forum and dove right in:D. Glad you're and hope to see you in the water one day soon.
