I am a new member to scubaboard. I have just booked a trip to Cayo Coco cuba and I have just recieved a message from the hotel telling me that they have no dive shop that can provide us with gear to dive with. The hotel is called Blue Bay. If anyone knows this area of Cuba at all and can tell me where we can dive I would appreciate it. i wanted to get certified there and it's going to be a little difficult if I can't find somewhere to dive ... lol

Hello just joined scubaboard today; presume you are already back from Cayo Coco. There is a dive shop beside the Hotel Tryp Cayo Coco (Scuba Cuba I think) where the hotels send guests for scuba.
Maybe the hotel meant it had no dive shop onsite; Cayo Coco is the second busiest vacation destination in Cuba after Varadero. Diving is supposed to be very good. Cayo Guillermo also has a dive shop, Green Moray. Both dive centers would provide certification courses.

I was hoping to get your impressions of Cayo Coco area diving.....I am heading to Cuba early January 2011 for several weeks. I have been told that the north coast of Cuba can be very windy January-February so that possible dive days are a 50% crapshoot. Assume this would apply to places like Cayo Coco and Playa Santa Lucia.

I am doing independent travel so I can switch to Cuba south coast for diving. So thanks for any feedback on your trip; or for any other viewers appreciate any thoughts.
