I've been reading the forum for a long time but only registered yesterday to join the community and to start asking questions. :) (...and maybe reply a few I can answer)

I started with the PADI path in 2008 by doing OW, AOW, rescue, divemaster, then got interested in the more technical aspect of diving and started the GUE path. I'm currently preparing myself for GUE tech 1 by diving more with a twin set and dry suit.

It's currently winter in Sydney, water temp around 17 C (62F), so it's cold.

Welcome to ScubaBoard. A great place to be during surface intervals. Good to have you onboard.
