Hi gang. New to the board and wanted to say hello. Anyone out there do any river diving? We dive the rivers locally and it's really dark/murky, so we use a lot of lighting. We found a piece of a wrecked ship this past saturday with a lot of bottles. Anyone know anything about bottles? They appear to be very old ranging from alcohol to medicine. Anyway great to be here.

Aloha and welcome to the board!

I'm originally from NC and plan to do some Charleston dark water diving soon. Who do you like to dive with and where? (I'm especially interested in old glassware (esp. medical) and teeth.)

Need a dive buddy?

I work at the Sheriff's Office here in the Low Country and about 8 of us dive usually on Saturdays. We dive the Tail Race Canal, Wando River, Edisto River and of course the Charleston Harbor. We're diving again this Saturday in the Wando at the wreck we found, it's only in about 18 feet of water but full of bottles. Do you know of anyone or any sites to help identify bottles? If your coming to Charleston sometime, let me know the dates and your welcome to join us if we're going in the water.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

I've seen references to rivers and bottles on the board, but couldn't find the threads I was thinking about. Do a few searches and I'm sure that when the right combination of words is used in the search, you'll get some good info.

Dive safe!

Welcome to the board.... Love to see some photos of those bottles!

Welcome Aboard!!!

It's addictive, but who cares?!?!?

Good friends and good info. What could be better???

P.S. - If you have not already done so, please fill out your profile.

Cool find. I would like to see some of those photos myself.

I'm from Beaufort, dive pretty much only black water. Bottles are my thing, but like teeth, too. Ashepoo River and Combahee are my favorites. Edisto's a little too clear, too many other divers. On your bottles, check your seams, if they run all the way to the top, they're machine made, leave for the next generation of divers. If the approach the lip, prob late 1800's to 1923 (blown in a mold and lip applied later, if they end at the shoulder "BOTTLE GOOD"! If no seam they are free-blown, squats and onions (dark green glass). Colored (greens, cobalt blues, etc.)sodas (blob tops) and beer bottles are nice - embossing is what makes them good. Then SC Dispensaries are also nice (1890's).

bottles you found. I am sure you will find several members that will be able to guide you with your questions.
