Hi everybody,

I'm heading down to South Fla (Deerfield Beach) in the second week of January and wanted to get my Open Water cert done while I was down there. I really need a condensed weekend course in Deerfield Beach. Can anybody recommend one? What will the water be like?

I've had a few "discover" scuba dives -most recently this past summer in Hawaii (34'-40')- so I'm pretty sure I know what to expect but if anybody has any advice that they would like to offer I'd would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

I haven't been to Deerfield beach but I was in Key Largo over Thanksgiving. Water temp was a balmy 74 at 30'-40'. We had one day with thermoclines below 70 at 15'. No weather impacts, reef we had done earlier. I would suggest a 5ml wetsuit if below 70. We were using our 3ml with the 74 temp. You can check with the dive center as to water temp. I did my check out dives in 40 degrees and really like the warmer water but like you I live mid Atlantic.

If you are doing your OW you won't go below 60'. To get certified you only need to go to 30' to demonstrate your skills.

Sorry I can't help with more info. Have fun.
