See the threads above mentioned by El Orans. IMO the situation is being blown out of proportion and I don't think it is as big of a deal as it's being made out to be. I carry the top level DAN dive insurance and have no real concerns about receiving services if I need them. DAN appears to be working very hard to control the situation and I believe their name is being smeared by a few less than scrupulous characters via the internet.

DAN is being rejected by A FEW chambers, not most and they are working to solve the problem. This problem is a lot smaller than some would have you believe.
