newbie to this forum, been diving for 1.5 years and I'm hooked. went to cozumel 3 times last year and I cant wait to go back. seriously thinking about taking a year off work and moving to there to relax and learn the language. I love the people, culture, weather, food, scenery, and last but not least the diving. looking to get some information about americans living on the island and get a feel for their experience, good or bad.

thanks
scott

Hello fellow Oklahoman. Welcome to the board. I am from Northeast Oklahoma.

I too am a big fan of Cozumel and am hipnotized by it every time I go there. I have found it best to visit by cruise though they limit the amount of time on an island (This is by far not diver friendly) If you stay there then you have to be a full back and bust through all of the people there constantly trying to sale you something.

As for Oklahoma if you enjoy lake diving and are a big fan of meeting fellow divers. Come to www.oklahomaaquanauts.com and there are many Oklahoma city divers as well as fellow divers from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Missouri who love diving as much as you and I do!

Welcome to SCUBAboard Scot! I grew up in Lawton. We have a lot of contacts in Cozumel. It's a great place to spend a year or so.

Good Luck & Good Diving!

Welcome to Scubaboard…look around for there is something for everyone. I too love diving Coz...but I much more enjoy the town of Puerto Morelos...in between Cancun and Playa De Carmen. My daughter did her DM internship here with Welcome to Dive in Puerto Morelos. The reef is not as well profound here as it is in Coz, but if you want to get away for a year, this is the place to look into.

thanks for the info. I will look into that. I really like getting off the beaten path in cozumel and mixing with the local people. The touristy areas by the cruise ships are the areas that I avoid. There are some really neat places on the other side of the island where you can get away from the hotels. I've always stayed at Hotel Cozumel which I think is awesome and for the price its very hard to beat. Its geared up for scuba divers especially. We always rent scooters for the duration of our trips because we like being mobile at the spur of the moment. you can actually drive around the entire island about twice on a tank of gas.
