Hey everyone, my names Steven. I'm brand new to scuba diving, and brand new as in ill start certification on july 31st haha. I've wanted to get scuba certified for so long and now i've finally found time to get certified so I can enjoy the wonders of the oceans. But i'm sure you guys will see me alot on here asking questions and trying to get a hang of everything. I try and do as much research as I can but any information is greatly appreciated. I look forward to talking with you all and possibly meeting some of you in the future.

Welcome to :sblogo: and your new addiction!

I wish you the very best of luck on your checkouts and remember, have fun!

Onward, downward, and into the BLUE.

Hi Steven, What part of KY are you from? I'm in the Owensboro area. There are a few good sub- forums you might be interested in here. There's the KY Piranha Patrol, The Mid West Muck Divers & Possibly you might also be interested in the Great Lakes Wrecking Crew. If you are in, or ever find yourself in Western KY, I frequently dive (OK almost live :D ) at the quarry in Hopkinsville, KY,... feel free to look me up for a dive or 2, as long as I'm not teaching. Any questions you have, feel free to ask or PM me. Good luck in your class!

I'm quite familiar with Philpot,... have lots of relatives there. The Hopkinsville quarry (Pennyroyal) is a decent quarry. Very large, however the biggest portion of it is deep (80+ ft) & very cold below 50 ft. I actually just got back from working with a student there today. It is great for practicing in. I have over 250 dives there alone. The only minus is the vis has been quite poor this year. It is sloooooowly beginning to clear. The shallows vis has been less than 10 ft. The deeper water has been about 20- 30 ft. There are some decent sized catfish & some very large, large mouth bass. Bluegill (KY Piranha :D) are all over the place & live up to their nickname- watch your earlobes, they really like earlobes (don't know why).

haha well thanks for the info, ill have to be sure to pick up a dive hood or something before i go diving out there. i had no idea that quarry was that big, that sounds like alot of fun. i cant wait to get all my gear and check it out, hopefully youll be out there and i can introduce myself in person.

I may miss you that particular weekend, as I have to work my real job & support my addiction :D . I will probably be there the next 3 weekends, however. Perhaps you might be able to come down after your certification dives? Just curious, who are you taking your course through? Blue Meridian?

yep blue meridian ill be doing there discover scuba program on the 31st, only for the reason Susan told me they might be offering some kind of coupon to go towards the open water certification classes and ill probably have some questions to ask then about some gear. ill also probably be bringing some friends out there, one of them is about 6 ft 10 so if you find him youll find me :)

That's cool. I got my start at Blue Meridian almost 5 yrs ago. The only thing I'll warn you about Scuba diving is that its addictive. That's good that you will have a friend going with you. Hopefully you'll both go on through the Open Water training & be buddies. That uncomplicates things greatly.
