Hi everyone!

Thank you for checking out my first post - I hope to learn about the local diving, and divers in my area. I mostly dive the local quarry, which for me, is Fantasy Lake - but I would never pass up an opportunity to go wreck diving in the ocean. So far, I've only had 1 ocean dive, which was to the USS Indra for my checkout dive. Other than that I just try to rack up experience any way I can.

Again, thanks for reading, I hope that many of you will become my friends.

Cheers!

Welcome to SB. I dove that lake doing training dives when I lived in Raleigh. Cold darn water, but it is a good place to get some experience. I loved wreck diving when I lived in NC and did my first wreck on the U352. The water was so clear that day we could see the sub from the surface. I was in heaven. There are plenty of active dive clubs around the Triangle. Go check them out and find some good dive buddies to have fun with.

Welcome to the board. Unlike my friend Bratface, I still live here and dive the cold quarry.. There are a good number of us locally that dive the quarry often and seveal good clubs. If you are local to Raleigh, come join us.

Hey guys thanks for the responses! I've heard tales of the amazing clarity out at the wreck sites - when I went it was about 40-50 visibility. Bratface, your first dive was U352? EPIC! I find the quarry is better when it's cold - when it heats up the algae bloom kills the visibility!

Herman - maybe I'll see you down there sometime and not even know it - just saw on their website today that they don't do air fills anymore :fail:

If you see me UW and I not with a class, you will know it's me. Most of the time I dive an old double hose reg and there are only 3 of us in the area that dive them. If you see someone with a double hose, come up and say hello. If it's not me, it's one of my buddies.

I did all my diving either at that quarry or the pool at NCSU when I was in Raleigh. There aren't too many procedures or skills you can't practice in there, its a great place. I'm just getting settled on the coast in between Wilmington and Jacksonville, and would love to start hitting some of the wrecks here along the coast. I've got the Indra, the Hutton, and U-352 on my list, any suggestions from the group?

i started in Fantacy Lake almost 20 years ago. it truly is just the beginning

i hit the NC coastline and then moved southward hitting all the locations from Morehead to Key West. I included the rivers and Florida springs.

Wore out lots of gear. Repaired and replaced lots of gear.

Not an inexpensive hobby for one like myself but well worth the investment.

Sadly I have found that when you start accumulating a good many dives, you just dont remember many of them.

Not sure why but certain ones stick in the memory.

My favorite memories are the reefs between Jupiter and Boynton Beach. Also the fossil hunting dives in and around Charleston SC.

I wish you good luck, smooth water, few complications, and few incidents.

Hi Johnny nice to know about you and your diving experience. Scuba Diving is amazing sport and adventures too. Safety is must when you doing Scuba Diving and your equipment should be very helpful when you dive. “The ocean don't care if you got family or friends or little kids. The ocean will kill you. It’s a good business to get out of. or go with all equipments like Divers Communication Torch which will help you to communicate under water.
