What a great site! I was doing some websurfing and stumbled across it while looking for information on weight integrated BCDs.

I've been certified since March 2001 (after taking the beginning scuba diving class at Sinclair Community College - twice, I had trouble with the remove-mask-underwater skill and needed more practice before certifying).

I wanted to be a scuba diver since I was 6 years old and saw a Jacques Cousteau special on television. It took a long time but I finally made my dream come true. I certed as a PADI rescue diver last summer and am planning on taking hte divemaster course next year if all goes well.

I've begun doing underwater photography and am saving up for a digital video camera so I can make my own "tv special."

My 2 best friends got certed shortly after I did and we generally make a buddy trio unless my niece, Erin (who just upgraded to Open Water Diver from Junior Open Water Diver) is diving with us when we dive as 2 buddy teams.

I'm leaving for Islamorada and Key Largo on the 5th of August for our annual trip for clear water diving. My usual diving habitat consists of quarry and lake diving where the visiblility is generally less than 15 feet, and sometimes much less. So I always have to laugh when the Florida dive operator apologized because the vis is only 75 feet.

I look forward to making new friends on this board. Happy diving!

Christine

Hey Christine, I totally agree with you about this board. I can't tell you how much information I get from here, from trip planning to equipment questions, etc.

Have fun in Key Largo, I just got back from there a couple of weeks ago - had a great day of diving! What quarries do you dive in Ohio? I've been to Gilboa a couple of times, but my dive shop says there is another one closer to Dayton. Have you been to that one - and how is it?

Hi Christine. Welcome to Scubaboard. Come check out the Florida Conch Divers forum and say hello. I'm certain you will find plenty of people with whom to share your experiences and perhaps get some insight on others.

Enjoy the Keys. We have a trip planned on Aug 7th with Island Ventures. Maybe you'd want to join us!

Welcome to the board!

Welcome! You'll like it here, this is the most informative place to go for SCUBA on the internet. Whether you want info, humor, or spirited debate, (or sometimes all three at once!), this is the place!

Oh, and when you fill out your profile, flex those humor muscles!

Natural Springs Resort (formerly known as France Lake) is in New Paris, Ohio (on the border of Indiana). Max depth is 20-something feet but I've not gone down past 18 due to the thermocline. You get on I-70 west and drive to the eastbound U.S. 40 exit just the other side of the Ohio/Indiana border. Follow U.S. 40 to the first traffic light and turn left. Continue on that road till you reach New Paris and pass the cemetery. The entrance to the resort is on the left shortly afterwards. The dock shop has air fills available and the admission includes 1 free air fill.

I also understand that there is a dive site close to Circleville, just south of Columbus but I haven't done any diving there yet.

We are diving with Tavernier Dive Center. They treated us wonderfully well after we were treated badly by Ocean Quest last summer. If you want to hear that whole story, email me privately. Suffice to say that I DO NOT recommend Ocean Quest to any safety conscious diver.

I'll definitely check out the Florida Conch Divers forum once I get back from work later today. Thanks!
