New to diving and a little upset that noone warned me about the addictive properties of diving. I may need an intervention. :-) My fiance and I just certified Sept. 07 for the purpose of our wedding trip to Playa Del Carmen mid June 08. We wanted to be certified and have a few dives under the belt so we would be more comfortable and be able to focus more on the dives there than our nerves.
I've been reading alot of the post here and have been getting good information and felt it was finally time to become part of the group. I'm currently looking for more info on Playa Del Carmen and the dive ops in that area. So on that note I must continue my research.

Learning to dive in the Texas muck makes a dive in the pretty blue waters down there like a walk thru a park ;) Just don't get too spoiled and let it ruin you for Travis diving, unless you can afford Cancun or Cozumel as a monthly trip :D
 
Hello LnghrnDiver. I also live in Austin ... up by 620 & 2222. I'm also a noob with my cert earned last Dec and and I'm looking to dive in Travis later this Summer if your interested. I've got a 19' bass boat that I'm going to rig for diving. I'm not buying 2 boats and I'm not giving up fishing so there are going to be a few mods done. With a boat and another experienced diver we can dive anywhere on the lake as we see an interest. Anyway, shoot me a PM if your interested. Enjoy Playa Del Carmen and best of wishes on the wedding.
 
Thanks Nadmat and In10se I am interested in getting to know more divers in this area. I leave for PDC June 12th so I won't be able to make the Feast, but will look at the Swamp diver forum and check on local events.
I'm also going to be looking for dive buddies after all the wedding events are done. I've been trying to talk all of my friends into getting certified and diving with me, but have found this to be difficult due to the cost.
I'm pretty new to being part of any forum so will have to excuse me if I don't have the etiquette down yet.

If your boat will float and run you can dive Travis from it. I have dove Travis from a wide variety of boats, grew up diving here out of Dad's 17' Glastron outboard, it was a great dive platform for 2-6 divers, your bass boat will work fine, if you have a good sturdy boarding ladder it will be a lot nicer. Biggest deal is watching overloading it to much with divers and gear(especially extra tanks, 6divers with 2-3 tanks apiece is a lot of weight).

But there is a lot of Travis to dive, fav boat diving spots for me are coves along Hippie Hollow to Marshal Ford area, and the steep cliffs along both sides of Paleface. Give me a PM if your ever in need of another diver, I live up off 620 between Anderson Mill and 183.

Come on out to FEAST sometime and I am sure you will find other volunteers to ride in your boat :D

Non diver friends are also good, provided they can be convinced to go out and hang at the lake to keep and eye on things topside while ya dive. If everyone is diving then you have to lock the topside crap in the car. A well stocked cooler to watch usually keeps them coming back for more. And some of them may catch the addiction after watching you gear up and go diving a few times ;)


We do the FEAST monthly at a location that varies, so ya'll come on by one when you get a chance.

Heh heh ... kinda figured it would be easy to fill a boat with divers at travis and I look forward to many days of doing just that. What is this FEAST you speak of? Is it a monthly deal or quarterly? I'm unavailable 'til early July but interested. We can take LnghrnDiver out and all get cooled off from the July heat.

I better start another thread before I hijack this one.

Check the link with the fishes in my sig line, I keep it pointed to the latest FEAST info.

It is monthly, so far on second Fridays @ 6:30, those who show for current feast decide where to have next one. Just a way for local divers to get together for some grub and to BS about diving and whatnot. Look forward to meeting you sometime.

When I get back from Mexico I will have to come back to slightly less visibility, but I will be up to jumping in the lake.

NadMat I saw that you may be going out with Robert on the "Giant Stride". He's partly to blame for my addiction since he was our dive instructor.
