Hello all. I'm wondering, after some commercial diving and reserve military service, what's a good transition to purely civilian scuba work? I don't want to just work at a shop, but I would. I'm a NAUI MSD but I don't have a ton of civilian scuba experience. I'm back in the Midwest now and wondering where to go from here. Are there any instructor programs near here? What would you do? Thanks...

howdy and welcome from south Florida........good luck and best wishes for your plans...

Welcome to SB! I would say that you should get your Divemaster/Instructor rating and go from there. Oftentimes, opportunities in diving present themselves once you immerse yourself in the sport.

Hello and welcome to SB.

What type of "Civilian" Diving did you have in mind?

There is instructing, guiding, small salvage work, boat hull maintenance, etc.

Are you certified as a commercial diver by the ADC?
