This may sound like an odd question to most...to others, maybe not. When I am doing a night dive, I love having my primary light fixed to my head somehow so that where ever I look, I have light. It does not even have to be the brightest light ever. I always travel with at least 2 Ikelite PCa 6 x AA lights because they are my absolute favourite. Does anybody out there know of any any true "head lights" that are made for diving and are depth rated? I bought one that was water resistant, not waterproof and got two years our of it before if flooded. This time I would like to get something rated for diving.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

That may be a tough find, but I do know they exist. Problem is, headlights aren't super popular with divers because if you look at your buddy, it's too easy to blind 'em with your light.

Pelican has one I've seen used in the water:

Check the cave forum. I know there is a diver helmet with lights mounted in it. I just use one of those little 2 "AA" battery UK lights that has a little SCUBA mask strap attachment. Light weight but bright enought for close up stuff.

I completely understand the "dangers" or issues related to this "accessory". This is how I got or get past. Both my buddy and I use the head light so we habitually will cover the light (or turn it off temporarily) when we look at them (assuming we are communicating and not just checking on them). Failing this, we know to cover our light and uncover it 3 times to indicate it needs to be covered. Simple but seemingly effective.

There is no such thing as waterproof..... not in a dive light.

The pelican headlamps are "water resistant" to 500 feet. IOW's depth rated as deep as most stuff out there.

HERE is a Pelican light that is depth rated to 500 feet (as most are).

If you got two years of diving on a *Non Diving* light chances are it was depth rated for diving, and when it finally flooded, you had not taken care of the orings.

Try and keep your headlamp out of other divers faces... unless you are very loose buddy, I'm not sure that is possible, but I guess it depends a lot on the environment you dive in. However there is a reason that other divers don't like to see headlamps, and that reason is you can't face your buddy without shining a light in their face... very annoying.
