Seems like the hard drive option makes more sense instead of having to deal with 60 minute tapes on the HC series units.

From my understanding both the SR & HC units have the remote / lanc connector for electronic control. So what am I missing? Seems like the hard drive option would make more sense.

Thanks!

SR5 does not have a viewfinder...SR7 does. I just received mine w/ikelite housing (so I can have access to MWB opposed to many of the other housings.) yesterday. I went with the SR7 b/c I also think the Hard Drive version makes more sense...and I am going to use it just as much on land as I will be in water.

SR5 only has a flip out screen to view, SR7 also has a flip screen but in addition it has an eye piece viewfinder to peer through. Much better camera IMHO.

K now I have a question, looking through the manual I cant find the asnwer...I was under the impression I could reassign button on the LCD to make them more accessible, for example move the MWB to the main menu....any ideas if you can even do that?

Thanks

The HDD cameras use AVCHD compression, a new format pioneered by Sony and (I think) Panasonic just a couple years ago. Some of the NLE's - notably Adobe Premiere CS - don't support it yet for video capture. Sony actually just started supporting it this summer. I've read the resource requirements for editing are steeper for AVCHD than HDV/Mpeg2 also. More about it:

Where do you dump 60-80GB's of video if necessary. A laptop? And where do you archive multiple 80GB files? I've got a box of tapes.

Although I believe my next camera will be an HDD model. Maybe the SR8 or it's successor. I'd like something that still fits in my housing (EVO).

You can, I think I did it by just playing around with the setup menus on the LCD. I don't find the manual a great deal of help.

It's late and I'm traveling for Thanksgiving early tomorrow so if you don't figure it out by Sunday PM and I'll see if I can send you a quick tutorial...
