A guy is going to put a salt water aquarium in his house. He wants to use live rock.

He said before he bought any, he wanted to make sure that no reefs were damaged in taking it...

YOU'RE USING LIVE CORAL THAT WAS COLLECTED OFF A REEF! OF COURSE SOME OF THE REEF WAS DAMAGED TAKING IT...WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO BUY IS DAMAGED REEF!!!!!! :depressed:

Live rock is often cultured not taken from the reef. I think it is you who needs all the facts. Making sure that the live rock has no impact on reefs is a valid concern and cause for investigating sellers.

This particular guy wants, or belives he can get, live rock taken from reefs, not cultured. Maybe he doesn't know you can get cultured live rock, but this was his concern.

Apparently he has a source that will get him what he wants, but has heard that some people are using dynamite on the reefs to get it. Regardless how it is collected, if it is taken from the wild, it is damaging reef. period.

Go to Bulk Reef Supply or Marco Rocks. Both sell dry rocks from inland quarries that are from ancient reefs. No current reefs are damaged and in time you can't tell the difference.
