I'm sure you've all seen or have linked this picture at one time or another; I've seen it about 100 times myself. Today I just noticed something though, his backup is pointed away from him. Have I been missing something all this time?

I don't mean this as a troll post. I just thought some of you might find it amusing, like I did.

I'm not DIR trained but I did just get a Hog style rig with 7' hose and will be diving it for the first time this week. How should it look? I believe that I've read that it should be upside down and capable of reaching down with your mouth and grabbing it with no hands. Is this correct? I haven't made by necklace yet ( doing so tonight ) and would be grateful for any pointers.

What is amusing :) ?
I turn the reg upside down every time I jump into the water as in this case the mouthpiece will hit th water an it will not free flow

if your backup is properly detuned you wont need tricks like this

Love the size of that can light ... brings back memories of days when you considered them ditchable weight ...

Sometimes when you're scootering you need to point the mouthpiece forward so the reg doesn't freeflow.

Well you see the thing is I either point it so the mouthpiece is jutting straight towards my jugular (from a horizontal postion; so mouthpiece at a 90degree angle) or if I need to keep it from free flowing I'll tilt it so the mouthpiece is pointing towards where my clavicles come together (mouthpiece pointed back a little) . Same end result I think, keeps water from flowing directly over the mouthpiece, drawing out air.
I've just never seen it as in the picture so I assumed it was a small goof.

Can scooters generate enough speed where the water flow can activate your purge valve?

Like PfcAJ said, it's not necessary to be able to reach it hands free. You don't want it so tight that it prevents you from looking down towards your toes while your primary's in your mouth. But again you don't want it so loose that it's dangling far below your profile.

I personally can get mine's w/o hands, but I have to work a bit to get it. I also have to be horizontal or tilted head down. Can't get it if I'm vertical.
