i was wandering if anyone has shot with the canon 28-80 f2.8-4 L and what there opinions were on it. also has any one shot with the canon 24-70 f2.8L or both lenses and if so which one the like better and how do the compare to one another.

i forgot to mention it would be top side only the 28-80L is the older version of the 24-70L i know there both heavy lenses for there size. but I can get the 28-80L for about half the price of the 24-70L i would primarily be using it for event photography and weddings along with my 70 to 200 2.8L lens. I was wondering how the two lenses compare to each other as far as sharpness and how fast they auto focus and over all quality of the lens.

Well, virtually every wedding photographer I know has and adores the 24-70L. I never hear about the 28-80.

If the 24-70 is newer you can bet its focus is faster and better. This is definitely one that's on the list if you are seriously shooting weddings for a living.

If you are shooting weddings as a sideline, there are probably less expensive options out there depending on your needs (like what types of venues you usually shoot in).

Maybe head to one of the many wedding forums and ask there - more likely to have real world users, I'd guess.

thanks that is what i was thinking as well. Im going to try and talk my friend/ boss into buying it for me or maybe i will just do an extra shoot this month to pay for it. and it is a sweet lens i have never herd any thing bad about it and was

just to let every one know i got the 24-70 f2.8 and i love it. it is the sharpest lens that i own. it is sharper than my cannon 70-200 f2.8 is. the only thing that this lens is missing is IS but even that is not all that necessary if any one is thinking of getting this lens instead of the 28-105 IS lens get this one unless you want something a little lighter because the lens is heavy

Congrats on the new toy!

Yup, that's why they call it "the brick" :D

And also if you don't need the extra reach ;)

by the way it fits in my housing now all i have to do is make a focus gear. and it will be great.
