Sorry to post about harnesses again, but none of the other posts answer my questions.

I stated in a post that my harness straps cross in the back. I use an OMS SS backplate. Pls go to OMS site and you will see what i mean.

Looking at the pics of the Halcyon harness they do not cross.

So here is my q's:

1. Whats the reasoning behind not crossing the harness and crossing the harness ?

2. If you have dove it both ways i need you opinion on which worked best and why?

3. i dont use a crotch strap with the OMS, but it would seam to help if your using the non crossed harness of the Halcyon. will it help to have one on if i re-web my harness like the halcyon?

can you please clear up the crossed and uncrossed issue for me

THX Andy

I started cross with a crotch strap. No one could give me a definitive reason for crossing, so I made a harness to try that wasn't crossed. I like it much better from the standpoint of comfort and the easy donning of no crossed webbing.
I think that most people try to keep their harness way too tight. You can loosen it right up.
I only use a crotch strap when scootering.

I would say it is a personal choice.
Think of suspenders they cross in the back, I would say that this is so the straps don't fall off your shoulders.

In my dive gear I have done it both ways without any real noticanle difference. I too dive an OMS bladder etc.

I currently have them crosses, i seem to like it better for no good reason. sort of like boxer shorts, or bikini type underwear

I bought the webbing so i think i will try both. I like the idea of removing some possible failure points ( the 1" webbing sewn to the SS rings on the chest) and i put a quick connect into the 2" because it was a pain in te as* to donn my tanks with a Viking Suit on. I want to eliminate the quick connect and the SS rings.

do you need the quick connect with the cross over version.

I don't believ in the quick connect idea

If you're having trouble getting in and out of your shoulder straps, then they're probably too tight. Just loosen them until you can get in and out fairly comfortably. As Divesherpa said, most people keep their shoulder straps too tight. You shouldn't need a quick release on the two inch.

Try that for a few dives.

Well i just spent some time re webing my SS OMS back plate so the straps dont cross. My observation so far is that its Simple and a clean looking harness. Now i compare it to what was on the OMS before, i would say the OMS is cluttered. I havent dove it yet but so far i am very pleased with what i see.

The OMS harness has 2 SS rings incorperated at the chest, they look pretty but its 4 possible failure points. ( top and bottom of each ring). now i have no failure points. You may say look how nicely its sewn though, its not gonna break. Chances are your right, but what if one does, it has the potential to be a disaster. So in an effort to be safer, how ever miniscule, i chose the simple approach.
