Hi,

I'm a big guy (6'2" and 335lbs) and I will dive primarily in south Florida (Ft. Lauderdale to Palm Beach and Key Largo areas). I prefer back-inflate style without storage pockets or other cumbersome styles around my beer belly. I also prefer only a belly strap that can possibly be held down around my beer belly with a crotch strap rather than a cumberbun.

I think I've narrowed it down to the ScubaPro Hydros Pro, Dive Rite Transpac XT harness and wing, or Hollis HTS 2.

The last 2 seem to be shop ordered only, nothing I could actually try on.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

don't overspend......

Are you anywhere near Dive Gear Express (Pompano/Deerfield Beach) to see their stuff?

As mentioned, checkout Divegearxpress......excellent gear, excellent prices......infinite size adjustments

I was all and only a back plate and wing guy from the time I got my OW card until a bit over a year ago. I still dive BP/W regularly. But, I got a ScubaPro Hydros Pro to use when I'm teaching OW. It turns out, I think it's a really nice rig for single tank diving. More stable, more comfortable, and more convenient than a back plate and wing. And, with the travel waist belt on it instead of the waist belt with those huge weight pockets, it's very nicely streamlined, packs pretty small, and is not very heavy. And it's neutrally buoyant, so, while it doesn't help you get down, like a metal BP/W would, at least it doesn't make you carry extra lead just to sink the BCD itself.

The Hydros sizing is not what I would have thought. I'm 6'1 and about 235 or so. I normally wear an XL in everything (or XXL sometimes). I tried a Hydros in XL and thought it seemed a little big. I tried a Large and it fits me perfectly.

They are modular, so you might actually benefit from that. Possibly a size L back plate part with XL or XXL shoulder straps and/or waist belt.
