I'm looking for a portable depth finder for my inflatable dive boat, maybe a hand held device. I don't want to permanently mount a depth sounder in my boat.

It would be nice to have a quick idea about depths before I drop the anchor. Does anyone know of such a device?

Thanks!

I use an old Humminbird "Wide One deep" portable. Not as compact as those handhelds perhaps, but OK for on a boat and good to 600' with a 16° transducer. The case is around 10" square x 6" deep and holds two 6v batteries along with the display. The transducer has a suction cup to hold it to the transom, so it's just for low speed operation. Cost was around $100 new but that was many moons ago. You can buy just the portable conversion kit for many of the Humminbird models for around $50 or $60 if you already have one mounted in another boat.
