I am about to get into spearfishing and lobstering (hopefully) here in Hampton Roads, VA. Has anyone out there done any lobstering off of VA Beach? I would love some pointers and advice on this. I also dive down by the Outter Banks, N.C. I have looked up and read the lobstering laws for the area so I have that part covered. I just have a lot of other questions...How deep generaly do I have to go? What kinds of lobsters are down there? What time of year is best? Basic things like that. So if anyone out there has some experience in this and some techniques that work, please let me know. As far as spear fishing, for the fish out in Ches. Bay what size gun would work best for a beginner? I am also going to ask these questions at my local shop and try to hook up and go out with someone who knows the area. Thanks in advance for any help. Fish On!

Bolney,

I spent some time living near the board walk of VA Beach.
For starters, I would get a JBL speargun, something in the price range of $100-$150.
They are perfect for what you will be shooting, I am sure mostly Stripers, fluke, just dont shoot any dolphins, youll see a lot of them.

okay, Structure,Structure, Structure.....before you jump in any area. Look at aeiral images for structure. Fish love structure, Lobsters love structure, Rocks, debris, sunken boats.

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. Thats pretty much what I had heard from the LDC. I can't wait to get started!
