I have recently added a Halcyon V weight to my equipment configuration. The 8 pound's is a little more than I need. Has anyone modified the V weight by cutting som eoff of the ends? I am Not sure if it will chip if I hack saw it.

Thanks

You should be able to hacksaw any v-weight that is mostly lead.

I had to increase the size of the band cut-outs on both of my v-weights (not Halcyon) as they were apparently molded for 2" bands. My bands are 3" and it caused the weight to not settle in nicely in between the tanks. Easily fixed with a little hacksaw work.

Also on one of the v-weights I cut it in half pretty much halfway between the holes. That gives you two pieces that can be used separately. One slightly heavier than the other. I think the 11lb weight is now a 6.5/4.5 two piece v-weight. Now I can use just one piece of it for certain situations like fresh water where I don't need as much from the v-weight. It also gives you the option of helping balance a set of doubles that are (or seem) top/bottom heavy. I also discovered the lower piece can be put on the lower bolt upside down and it puts even more weight lower. I used to do that until I realized it was just my head and skills that made my tanks top heavy.
