I just dug up a brand new Halcyon LP power inflator that I took off my Eclipse 6 or so years ago. It has the steel buttons. It is the replacement inflator, with the groove around the retainer nut, so NOT subject to the recall.

Is this inflator worth keeping and using? I have only ever used Scubapro power inflators and so I have no idea how these function or if there are any issues with them. It has a very nice feel and works fine, in my garage, and so I was thinking of giving it a try in the ocean.

I'm also asking for some feedback on these because, unless I am mistaken, Halcyon now supplies inflators with plastic buttons, which makes me further wonder about these.

Mahjhong,

Personally I'd keep the stainless Halcyon power inflator as a spare just in case you need it to save a dive. (If you have other spares then I'd throw it in the bin :) )

I would suggest you replace the inflator with a different inflator - a DiveRite or ScubaPro for example.

The stainless Power inflator failed on me during a dive and my buddy's failed on him on a course so I personally consider them to be poor.

The problem I have with them is not the maintenance on the inflator but the internal thread (the moulded plastic thread inside the inflator itself) is poorly made. Once the plastic thread goes, the inflator is rendered useless. It's dead easy to strip this plastic away when you are maintaining the inflator and I'm not talking about cross threading.

BTW Deep Sea Supply has an inflator maintenance tool which I recommend - it's a simple but effective tool that you might want to look at if you are interested in maintaining your current inflators.
