Be picking up a Halcyon 40lb, doing a test dive with it on Friday.

I only hear amazing things about them. Is there any negativity to these BCD's?
I love the weight pockets on the older "vest" bcd's (I'm new), and these dont have them.

If someone handed you just the steering wheel to a Ferrari, you'd probably think it was nice, but wouldn't understand what the big deal was.... until you put it with the rest of the car. Well, this Halcyon setup is part of a larger whole that is a different way of diving than you learned in OW class. And until you get a grasp the entire concept it's jut not going to seem like what it could.

Yes. The stainless ones have six pounds of negativity. Seriously though, they are very nice, I have a few myself. I'm willing to bet that the major complaint that you'll get in this thread is going to be the expense.

They are very nice but they are sometimes more money than they should be given the price/quality of their competition.

hmmmm, i particularly like the first response... it was deep.

I feel pretty happy with myself in the regular BCD's, but i'm pretty stoked to try this halcyon out tomorrow.
I will deffinitely put some thoughts up.

regulators away!

I dive the Eclipse with 40lb lift wing and SS plate. From the very first dive, it has been the best buoyancy control system I have ever used, and it only gets better the more I dive it. :palmtree: Bob

... it's just equipment
you can dive a halcyon backplate and wing without becoming a DIR advocate or even using a long hose

to the OP - you can get halcyon intergrated weighting for the backplate, although i found intergrated weighting on a backplate, when it was adjusted properly, caused a massive heads-down trim that i constantly had to fight against. I now use weight on the rig and balance out with a weight belt.

the actual halcyon equipment is pretty good and the build quality and finish is really nice, i just bought a few of their setups recently after diving with a zeagle bpw setup. they are quite costly in comparison, but no doubt you'll be happy with it.
If you want a cheaper option then check out zeagle, DSS etc etc etc

Have fun and adjust your harness properly!

Well put (as always)! Hog-till-I-die! :cool2:

So I went out today with the new BCD, I was having problems releasing air from the BCD from the inflation valve or the vent. even perfectly trimmed, i couldnt get down.
So my instructor had to force me down and eventually, i was able to release the air from the vent.

Today's dive was a weird dive, trim issues. but going out again in a few weeks, hopefully better trim and more importantly better vis!
