Hi!

I was wondering if the veterans here can help me decide how to put the weight belt on.

I have a 36lb halcyon pioneer BC. Should I wear the weight belt under the crotch strap or over the crotch strap?

If its under, I'm obviously worried about dumping the thing. If its over, then it can't ride up higher than the lower back harness.

Thanks,
Kedar

I wear my weightbelt under the crotch strap and have had no problem ditching it. Like any other part of your gear just pracitice.

I wear mine under. That said, I usually dive a drysuit (when I wear a wetsuit, I have no ditchable weight on..)

If I need to get to the surface NOW, I inflate my BC. If my BC has failed, I inflate my drysuit. If my tank has exploded and I have no air available, I swim up... I'm neutrally buoyant when that happens. If my BC and drysuit fail when my tank explodes (yanno, shrapnel rips them to shreds) and I haven't died from the impact, I'll swim up my rig since I don't wear enough weight to be more than 6 lbs negative at any point in the dive, and I'm never going to be facing that anyway.

klausbh once bubbled...
There seem to be mixed opinions on this matter. Personally, I much prefer wearing it over (but I'm no veteran). Here is a recent thread on the topic:

Does anyone know if there is an "official" DIR answer?

-Klaus

I don't know if its an "official" DIR answer, but when I asked GI3 he said it was fine for me to wear it under the crotch strap.

Thanks to all you for your help!

I read the link Klaus sent. Informative discussion!!

For now I'll wear it under the the crotch strap and later considering moving all or some weights to the cam belt or the waist harness.
