Hi,

I just joined, and we have a family cruise stopping during the day (8am - 5pm) in Labadee, Haiti on Dec 21. Any ideas about how my son and I might be able dive there? (I know, there are easier ways to dive in the Caribbean than this, but we're joining friends on this cruise. The cruise also stops in Ocho Rios, and there is a dive through the cruise line there.) Any ideas for Labadee would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Dave

Welcome to the board. I was wondering if you realize that both of those destinations do not have much if any large fish as there is subsistence fishing going on in both of those locals. Other places like Grand Cayman. or the Turks and Caicos that have cruise ports have regulations on fishing so the populations of fish are much more dense and the reefs are somewhat protected. I've not been to either of those places because sea life is reported to not be great. I'm sure you'll still enjoy your dives as it's better than not diving.

Are you going on to Grand Cayman and Cozumel? Dive there! I may be doing the same itinerary. Shore diving Eden Rock and lunch at My Bar. I've spent two weeks diving Coz but, I've never done the little beach dive at Chankanaab. Doin' It! I here you check out an entrance to the cenotes...cool halocline...fresh & saltwater mixing.

My thanks for your responses. Having concluded that the diving for this itinerary would be disappointing, I've wriggled out of the original planned cruise. I'm thinking of doing a spring break trip -- either a cruise with more dive-friendly destinations, or a diving trip with my 14 yr old son and sending my wife and daughter to a spa!
