I'm all set for my May 24th - June 1st trip to Cozumel. I'll be staying at Hacienda San Miguel just north of town. My next question is whom to dive with. I'd like to do a few night dives at shallow depths, two days of 2 tank boat dives, and a good bit of snorkeling.

I don't plan on renting a car, so I'd like to arrange for pickup near my hotel with a fastboat operation to the reefs. Higher capacity tanks would be nice. Trips to some of the reefs with swimthroughs would be great.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

There are tons of Coz dive ops that fill most of your bill, but getting picked up north of town may present you with a problem.

No place to be picked up out there.

So your choices, 1) Dive with sombody in town that will either pay for you to taxi somewhere 2) Or that departs off of the city docks. 3) Or dive with somebody that leaves out of the marina and just taxi. Most of the larger boats start out in the marine north, which is within walking distance. Most of the boats ( in number ) leave from the south marina which is a taxi ride. The diving is to the south. A few of the operators might come up to the city docks if they have enought customers.

Last choice, change to a hotel more to the south. I think Caribe Blue is about the same price, but then you spend your money on taxis for meals.

Small correction. The nothern marina is primarily fishing boats. Very few dive operators actually keep their boats there due to the added distance from the reefs. Even if you are diving with amn operation that keeps their boat in the northern marina, they will not usuallly allow you to board the boat there, it is actually against rental contracts to have passengers load there unless it is due to extenuating circumstances/weather, etc.

Deep Blue, Aldora, Aqua Safari are all downtown operators that pick up downtown.

You'll like Hacienda San Miguel, very nice clean low budget accomodation with nice staff. Tell them not to give you a room that backs up to the chicken farm next door. The roosters start crowing at 4am.Me and my dive buddies stayed there last March and enjoyed it. It is a short walking distance to the center of town.

You don't need a cab to town , short walk. Yes, a lot of fishing boats in the north marina, maybe half and some private boats. But, Scuba Club has maybe 8, Aqua Safari has a bunch, Pepe's are there and the Yellow Rose. ( Dive Cozumel ) Also some op's that I don't even recognize. Being I've gone out there to get on a boat, a couple of times, I guess I'am a rule breaker. But, 100% , most of the diving is to the south.
