Hi everyone! I've just finished my Tech 2 with Gideon Liew at Manado (Indonesia), and fortunately, we all passed. For those who are interested in my course report, you can find it at my blog. Manado is a great place for tech 2 dives, with the walls going down forever, and with lots of pelagic life to see, although we're mostly too focused on our course. Another fantastic GUE course!

Congrats! I cheated and read the report on the GUE forum....nevertheless, great job, especially while sick! I hope to get to this level in 3-4 years. :)

Safe dives,

Cyp

How's that cheating? You caught me "spamming" the forums instead! Hahaha! I'm sure you'll get to Tech 2. It took me about 6 years to get from Fundies to Tech 2, including diving for a year and half to get comfortable on doubles. But then again, we aren't blessed with diveable sites at our doorstep, so I'm sure that you'll get to your goal in a shorter time frame than mine. :) Just remember to enjoy yourself! Cheers!

Well GUE brother, I'd love to say that I have diveable sites at my doorstep, but the current closest dive site to me is 1 1/2 hrs away. :) I'm still looking for that spring fed rock quarry only 30 mins away, and I know there are a couple, so maybe one day I'll get access. Until then, I'll just buckle down and plan a 1 1/2-2 hour drive to each dive site, with even more 3-4 hrs away.

And I said 3-4 years to Tech 2....I wouldn't be aggravated if that turned into 6. I prefer to have long term goals. That's what I love about the GUE system, beyond being a simple, proven safe system it allows a certain progression to be taken at length. Now before I get any nasty PM's, I'm not dogging the other "advance by taking a course once or twice a month" systems out there. I enjoy continual learning. I'm just stating the obvious fact that you cannot go GUE Fundies rec pass, to tech pass to Tec 1, to Cave 1 or beyond in a couple of months. The system isn't designed that way.....and I like that! :)

Safe dives,

Cyp

Haha! Well, it's still a 4 hours of travel to the jetty for us, then another 2 hours by jetty. My Tech 1 buddies are working in Texas right now, and they do complain about the quality of the dives there too.

That's a great attitude to take about how long it'd take. Ultimately, it's you who have to decide whether you're ready or not. The important thing is, we've all gotta keep practicing the basics and skills that we'd learned along the way. We copped plenty of that when we were going through Tech 2, and I agree with that. Have fun with the training and practices, but remember that ultimately, it's a means to an end, ie. don't just practice the skills, put them to good use by doing some awesome dives :D

I agree with practice and putting skills to use. :) And I have to admit that I figured you would be within an easy hour of multiple dive sites being in Singapore. That's just shows what I know about the geography of that region. Lol

Alan, you have my most heartfelt congratulations.

I remember when you first contacted me, back when you were an OW diver and got intrigued with GUE diving. Watching your progress since then has been a delight. I am very happy that I was able to be of some help and moral support, to see you go way beyond my ambitions.

I sincerely hope that, someday, Peter and I can make it back to your part of the world, and we can meet for real and dive together. No bottle rotations, though . . . :)

Sorry for not replying to your reply earlier, Lynne! Yeah, it was ages ago, wasn't it? Six years, I reckon? Thanks so much for your guidance and encouragement all those years ago, starting from my traumatic damaged ear drum during my first Open Water training dive.

No bottle rotations, though . . . :)

Hahaha! Darn, I was hoping your could share some tips on that! Ah well, am sure Laurynn would love to be clipping stuff off you guys :snicker:
