Dear GUE membership,

We are very pleased to announce that GUE has been officially approved by
the UK Health and Safety Executive to act as a recreational diver education
agency in the United Kingdom. Such recognition makes all of us very proud
as it not only legitimates our efforts of the last few years, but also
allows us to provide many of our supporters UK course in their own
environment. This is truly a landmark event in GUE history.

Hmm. I assumed this was for OW classes. Does it only apply to DirF classes?

It means the GUE is now a recognised recreational training agency within the UK. JJ and AndrewG are coming over for the launch and th London Int. Dive Show.

So far the only courses offered here are DIRf and Tech1.

A bit more detail...

In the UK any job you do must be HSE approved. You can't just do whatever you fancy if you want to be paid for it. You can't say "I'm a dive instructor, come and take my course". GUE now have this approval so GUE instructors can teach GUE courses and be paid for it.

It has nothing to do with recognised qualifications. This is pretty meaningless as you don't NEED any qualifications to go and dive.

Okay, that clears it up somewhat. I was also looking at it from an openwater type of course. Is Tech 1 considered recreational in the UK?

"Recreational" probably refers to anything that is "non-commercial", regardless of rec or tech distinctions made by divers.

After giving me pause, that's how I read it on the Quest list.
