Welcome..ill be passing through IST in July...doubt I'll have time to dive though...

Hi, I hope you like Istanbul, I have lived there for a long time.I have moved to a seaside town after get tired of a big city.

If you want to go to dive Saroz is a nice place close to İstanbul. Also Ayvalık is not so far. One hour with a plane + one hour with a bus.

Just in case I will list some of the dive sites here. (I have written before so just for info)

1- Saroz it is the northest part of the aegean sea . İt is in Çanakkale, Gelibolu very nice by The Mount Ida -lots of history (The city of Troy) , and if you ever happen to come visit assos with athena temple for sure:)
Dive sites;
-Kömür Limanı ; best for night dives for camping (sea meets with lush forest), lots of fish and a wall. (fishes ; groupers, oregon fish, mığrı balığı (some kind of eel) , aplysia specieas (sea rabbit we call -deniz tavşanı), octopuses and lobsters (personally a saw a lot)
- İbrice (Heaven and Hell) ; Heaven for learning, Hell has wall after 3mt it suddenly goes to 10m then 30m underwater wall, rich with creatures.
-Minnoş Kayalıkları (Minnoş Reef) ; one of my favorites, if you are experienced diver a tour around reef is really nice.
-Toplar Burnu veTünelleri (Toplar promontory and tunnels); Again one of my favorites. Wall is 30m and is consist of lots of caves and lots of creatures with corals and sponges.
-Bebek kayaları (Bebek Reef) ; again one of favorites, I do not know the length but I think very tall reef with currents, but lots to see. Start diving near a cliff,and when you start diving I think it just start orange hard corals. ( I do not know in english what they called just translated what we call). Very nice diving site, I have never go deeper than 35m but very tall I think.
-Lundy Batığı (Lundy Wreck); I have never gone there, it 1908 first world war 188 ton English warship. When they were reatreating after Çanakkale war they wrecked it. 28m depth, has lots of lobsterish creatures.
Just click the links.

2- Ayvalık; (Red & yellow corals / gorgonias) here is 45 minutes to where live, and also I love the nature :) . Şaytan sofrası is a must see place with a very very nice scenery and can have really nice food as all around Turkey. There are like 30 dive sites, very close to Greece , I will just list my favorites.
Dive Sites;
-Kerbela ; starts from 30m to 65 m, it has (as all ayvalık) groupers, oregon fish, eels , aplysia specieas , red mullets, dentex dentex, octopuses and lobsters. The gorgonia forest starts as my expericence at 40-42m, but really really nice.
-Ezerbey Taşları; You can see the yellow and Red gorgonias.

So there are 28 more very similar or easier places. according to season you can see dentex dentex hunting red mullets.. personally I loved the scene:)

3- Çeşme, Very nice small town, near to Alaçatı where you can also windsurf.
Diving Sites;
-Fener Adası ;
I have been in Çeşme but I was not a diver but I am planning to dive there, because if you are lucky can see seals:)
-Monem Batığı;(monem Wreck) ;Old german ship,because it was old they wrecked it.
Of course lot more just wrote which I plan to visit.

4 - Bodrum, middle -south aefean sea ; really nice town.
Dive Sites;
- Küçük Resif;(small reef)
- Büyük Resif; (Big Reef) ,really nice dive, wall dive with sponges (Axinella) and lots of aegean fish species. If lucky baracuda clusters:)
-Delikli Mağara (delikli Cave) ;Bubble cave is at 12 meters and it is full with tube worms,types of corals, sponges. Check out for lobsters within the cracks. The colours of the cave from yellow to purple .The surprising point about cave is that you could enter the cave and exit from the chimney of the cave. The chimney has a diameter of 1 meter and leads you up to 6 meters. After your exit from the cave, look back for the fascinating view of air bubbles which scuba divers left inside.
And I do not know the other but can check the wrecks and other from here
