New to this forum and just getting started in diving. Planning to get certified before end of summer. But going to Cayman Island end of March. Been to Cozumel, Nassau, Bahamas, Cayman Islands (2007) to name a few places, but never been diving ever. I have been trying to get lined up for a weekend class but they are limited. :D

As a former SD resident (slightly less frigid) I agree that OW classes can be hard to find - especially in the winter when all the open water is frozen over.

You may however be able to get private or semi-private instruction and then get a referral to do the checkout dives in the Caymans in March. Many PADI instructors seem to be less LDS attached and may be an option if you can't find an instrucotor through a shop.

I'm not sure where you are in SD, but if you are within a reasonable drive of western SD, Dennis Lively in Rapid City SD does private lessons and could get you set up for a referral for reasonable cost. He is also an excellent instructor.

Edit: I noted from your zip you are in Grand Forks. Bit of a drive. The MSP area might be your best bet for an instructor on semi-short notice. There are at least a half dozen dive shops in the MSP area.
