Hi SB,
I'm a little new to the board so bear with me.
I'm a Dive Control Specialist living in southeast asia, Vietnam specifically. I've been here about a year and have served many divers with rave reviews of the diving in Indonesia. After a little bit of research, and some spectacular photo gallery looking, I've come to figure that Indonesia would be a great place to work my next year abroad.
So: I come to you seeking any experiences you may have living and working in the country. Where you worked (doesn't have to be specific companies of course), working and living conditions, ball park pay, expenses, oh and HOW WAS THE DIVING?????

Been in Bali for the past few years. Most dive professionals here are locals, especially Divemasters. You'll find it's much harder to fund a job here than in Thailand or Malaysia.
Part of the reason is that there are very qualified and experiences local dive professionals who speak English and other languages.
Another reason is that you need an expensive work permit to work here legally. It's normally paid for by the dive centre you work for, but there needs to be a good reason for dive centres to decide to employ you over locals.
Trawangan and/ or Komodo seem to be places where people get away with working short term with a tourist visa. I would not recommend that option as it can result in jail sentences and heavy fines...
Otherwise, the diving is great!

Thanks Geko,
It's hard to find information about who enforces working permit laws and who doesn't from the outside.
