I have heard that on occasion Great Whites have been spotted int eh Caribbean although its rare. how about Cozumel and the Belize areas?

Anyone know of any official sightings down there?

I remember reading of sightings of GWs by fishermen in some of the local papers. I also found an official paper from the State Government of Quintana Roo that states that within their waters you can find "El Tiburon Blanco, Carcharodon Carcharias" aka The Great White.

Page 131 if you are interested and can read some spanish. I suspect that there not doing much hunting there but the shores of Q.Roo are in their travel paths.

Cheers.

Great Whites are in all oceans, just not commonly sighted in the Caribbean. A friend got some photos of a 13' female in the Bahamas just north of Grand Bahamas two summers ago. Swam up from 110' to 80' and within 10' of him until he exhaled and it scooted. This guy had THOUSANDS of hours UNDERWATER in that same location over many years, too.

One restaurant in Key Largo used to have a 10+ footer hanging up on the wall. Was caught right offshore 10+ miles out in the Gulf Stream.

Chances of you seeing one? Do you ever buy lottery tickets and win big? Better odds :)

Yep. Bingo. The reality, as dhass basically said, is that just about anything could swim up to you just about anywhere in the ocean BUT the chances are certainly more slim to none of seeing some things in certain places.

Don't know about GWs` but I saw my first (Bull)sharks over there,best dive ever,up till than:D And I didn't like sharks in those day's :confused:Saw to many Jaws movie's:rofl3:

There have been a lot of Toot-pick fish migrating into Caribbean waters. They are hard to find due to their size and evasiveness but they normally get into an area ahead of a school of migrating Great Whites.

They are very important in the food chain and should not be messed with.

What are they good for you ask? Simple, they pick a Great Whites teeth after bighting a chunk out of a surfers butt. :D :D

They don't mess with divers because they give the sharks gas. :D
