A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Moved to Marine Life and Ecosystems

They've seen two whites here in Hawaii while on their deep-sea submarine research rides. One of the sharks actually cruised the sub so close it took a light off.

I forgot about the ones spotted on the surface. Not only was there the one spotted by Hawaii Shark Encounters, but also the one that was chasing around spinner dolphins on the west shore.

Another interesting note: They recently opened a Marine Mammal Rescue and Rehab Center in Hilo, Hawaii...and one of the reasons why: two dolphins stranded themselves on a beach there in Hawaii. Before any rescue or animal control services could get there to evaluate the conditions of the dolphins, some of the locals managed to get the dolphins back into the ocean. After that, the local lifeguards reported that the dolphins were being chased by sharks. The lifeguards don't know if the dolphins survived, but putting them back into the ocean left them vulnerable to a worser fate with sharks.

I imagine the sharks were following the sick dolphins around hoping for a treat, giving them plenty reason to seek safe haven on the beach. The sharks were probably tigers in that case, however.

You are probably right with the sharks being tigers. But I think the dolphins would have had a better chance to live, if they got them to a rescue center, treat and rehabbed them, and then released them back into the ocean.
