Well, I've been doing a lot of research here on SB and the web in general to determine what equipment I want to buy especially since I'm tired of renting gear.

I went to Pacific Wilderness (Orange store) yesterday and spent 2 hours trying on BCs, looking at regs and computers and just getting a feel for the shop. Roger was ever so helpful and patient with me...he knew I was just looking and gathering information at this point, but it didn't stop him from providing me with top customer service. He even wrote down the styles I narrowed down to and their current prices. He told me about their price guarantees and we discussed return policies. It was a great experience!

Even better, I returned to the web and began looking up prices to compare. PW beat almost all prices (with the exception of Leisure Pro for the BC) that were listed on the web for the same gear pieces I was considering! But since PW is an authorized dealer for my BC preference, I'll be going back to them.

When I'm ready (and can afford) to buy my equipment, I'll definitely be returning to PW!!!

I'm glad to hear that you had a great experience at your local LDS. I have yet to find a LDS that doesn't do price matching with online retailers.

I love hearing these stories about great LDS :D Too often you just get the bad stories ...

Congrats on finding a shop you can work with.

Aloha, Tim

I would assume that you were told that Pacific Wilderness sells the Deep Sea Supply back plate and wing at their San Pedro store. It sounds like you were treated well. It is good to take your time. You should not be rushed when spending serious cash. In the past I have seen Halcyon gear at the Orange store, they have a nice selection of many styles and brands. Zeagle, ScubaPro, and if memory serves me the Aqualung family as well as others.

Good luck,

Mark Vlahos

Mark...yes, I tried on the ScubaPro LadyHawke, the Seaquest Libra and the Zeagle Zena for BCs....I actually liked the Zeagle the best of the 3 (which was my hope...hee hee)...

They showed me a lot of AquaLung Regs and computers for several different companies like Suunto and Oceanic....so there was a great choice to work from...now I have to save up the money and make some decisions.

Don't forget to give Milo a try at Beach Cities Scuba in Newport. Tell him I sent you.

My only problem is that Milo is much further from me than Roger...If I'm able to get down to Milo, I'll definitely check him out!! Thanks for the input!!! :)

I wish I could find one of those LDS's. none of mine can come close to scubatoys most times

As I said both are good places! And do take your time and talk to as many women divers to get their imput. Men don't usually have a clue as to what is comfortable for women.
