Hi from England
Can anybody help me? I am going to the Chicago area for a summer vacation (July/August 2011) and wondered if any body had suggestions for diving in the lakes? I have been diving since 1987 and most of that has been around the British Isles, but I have dived abroad aswell.

Gareth,

Look under United States and then Great Lakes Wrecking Crew...many posts. I have not dived in the Chicago area but I know there are some great dive groups there. You may find yourself diving in Michigan or the N Ohio quarries as well. Enjoy Chicago!

Hi Gareth,
The chicago area has some charters that dive the local area but as you go north it only get's better, see capt.Dales web site,
Enterprise Marine

Then a bit north to Milwaukee more cool sites and up our way even more!
with several boats running charters.
you will need a dry suit or at least 7mm wet suit, gloves, boot's ect,,, as the waters on LakeMichigan remain in the high 30's deg F. to mid 40's degF. most of the dive season!
If you get up our way feel free to PM/email me as we dive some great wrecks out of PortWashington Wisconsin, just a short couple hour drive north of Chicago and may be able to get some equipment you need to dive the sites within your skill range thru our Local DS
Have a fun trip,dive safe,
Brad
