Hello, My son and I live in East Central Wisconsin and want to try wreck diving this coming Summer. Is there anyone out there who can point us in the right direction? Maybe decent shops or specific wrecks. We have reasonable access to the west shore of Michigan and the south shore of Superior.

There are alot of wrecks along the west shore of lake Michigan. What is your experience level? How deep of water are you comfortable in? A good starting point in Milwaukee would be the Pirates Cove run by a fellow named Jerry Guyer. He runs a boat called the Lender which is slow, but comfortable. He goes to The Prinz Wilhelm ( the Willy), the Car Ferry Milwaukee, and the 906 Dredge on a regular basis. Divers Delight Charters out of West Bend goes to about everything from the Wisconsin off Racine to the Hetty Taylor off Sheboygan. Fast boat, no frills but good people.
I would suggest that you look into the club scene. A great way to network. You might find your way onto private boats this way. That would give you a bit more flexibility. You can meet club members at functions and decide who you want to dive with that way. I am a member of the urge to Submerge club out of West Bend. I found them doing an internet search for dive clubs. Give it a shot. Might be worth your while.

A Good resurce is the book: The Great lakes Diving Guide, By Cris Kohl. You will find all you need to know about diving in the great lakes area.

Pyrite, I don't know what part of WI you are in but you are up near the Appleton area there are several scuba clubs and dive shops in the area. They meet once a month and plan trips to dive in the summer. Now they aren't on the water, but they do complete a lot of wreck dives. Check out their website at www.fvsc.net

Good luck!

You will find that near Milwaukee there is about 21 wrecks to chose from. If you can give me some details of where you're at I'll try to give you what little I know about your area.
