I would like to start out just saying... I'm addicted after 1 pool session!!! The freedom and serenity in the pool was one of the greastest moments I have ever experienced. Back to the begining after 2 evening bookwork classes and our first pool session I think I gonna spend the rest of my life diving, to bad I didn't experience this years ago (44 yoa). Me and the wife are headed to Belize to visit a friend down there and he recommended that we take scuba classes at home prior to us going down there. So we signed up and WOW. My wife panicked said she couldn't breathe. One of the DM's came over and helped her breathe deeper and after that you couldn't drag her outa the water (thought for sure there goes all that money on gear and instruction when I saw her eyes as big a saucers, her rip that mouth piece out and head for the surface). Would also like to send out some prop's to the Instructor Gene (UnderSea Adventures) and the 3 other divers that showed up to help (was 1 experienced diver to 2 of us newbies). Can't wait for the 2 more classes and a pool session to be over with so we can make our first dive in the Puget Sound on the 25th-26th. HOLY P00P I'm excited, everyone should try this at least once in there life!!!

We (wife and I) completed the confined dives yesterday with all thumbs up (or "ok" signs if you prefer). That signaled the "open the checkbook" light, and I'm working quotes with a LDS as I type.

I too am an "older distinguished gentleman" like yourself. Personally, I'm glad I didn't try this when I was younger or I'd have changed my entire career path, and I'd never been able to afford all these cool toys. Much better this way and still 50+ more years to make memories doing it! haha :)

There's nothing quite like being weightless, is there? I still enjoy DMing pool sessions, just because I get to spend an evening floating . . . Wait until you see the incredible diversity of life that Puget Sound has to offer!

That's amazing - glad you enjoyed it so much.

I had my first pool session recently and that evening all I kept thinking about was getting back in the water. Now imagine how amazing it will be in the sea...

Glad to hear that your " Hooked on SCUBA ".

Especially, happy that you are getting quailty training.

Good Luck & Good diving!

I had exactly the same experience. It took me about 30 seconds in the water with scuba gear to know this was going to be my deal. Now, almost 14 years (12 as a dive pro) and 1000 dives,, it's still what I live for. I was certified at the age of 45, and my wife at age 49. Take the approach we did- dive a bunch to make up for all those years when you weren't diving! Have a great trip to Belize and all the other places you will be going over the years to come!!

Glad it's all working out so well. I know what you mean about "too bad". I didn't start 'til 51, but didn't live near the ocean until then, and had no interest in diving lakes.

Wow!!! Someone else who feels exactly the way I do. That unnerving itch to get back in the water and see what there is to see. I never want to come up when I get down there. I have snorkeled for years and always knew about SCUBA but never got off my lazy arse to do anything about it until this past year. Now that I am cert'd I can't wait for the next splash. Let us know where your open water weekend is at on the Sound, I for one would be interested in hearing. Do us one favor though, don't get over confident as I did about two weeks ago. I was diving a jetty and we misread the current and got caught in a rip tide. VERY SCARY I assure you. We all got out okay but it was one hell of a ride. Stay safe and dive as much as you can.
