Just had to let everyone know what a great day of diving we (hubby and I) had today. We dove Haleiwa Trench, which was FLAT. Decended and seen 2 small black leafy scorpion fish at 16ft, tons of turtles (of course) and off to the left coming down upon us (at 35ft) was an 8 ft. Hawaiian Monk Seal. It was not even 2 ft. from my face and staring at me. This was the first time I have ever dove with one. I have seen them on the top of the water while I was on a boat, but never got the dive with one. Surprise- no camera on this dive. He was not tagged so we called the hotline and they should be returning our call tomorrow (Monday). He had a good sized mark on his right side which came from either a cookie cutter shark or an accidental spear gun shooting. I can't believe how incredibly adorable he is. Just wanted to let you all in on our great dive.

makes my quarry dive yesterday seem not worth drying the gear...sniff...

Take faith, Baby Duck, anyone can dive nice, warm water . . .
. . . it takes a trooper to dive what you dive!!! ;)

I was thinking the same thing about my quarry dive on Saturday. But then again, my quarry dive on Saturday was better than staying home doing yardwork. ;)

Lucky you! I have only see them at the surface or at the aquarium! Where do I have to go to get some of your luck? :)

First- no camera's allowed!!! Everytime I leave the camera at home I see something cool. One of the last dives at the trench last year we saw a manta ray right by the turtle cleaning station. First time I ever saw a manta also. Of course, no camera at that time either. Guess I will leave the camera at home if that is what it takes to see the good stuff. I do have a photo from another diver that was behind us. Just got off the phone with the conservatory people. Hope to see another monk seal or manta ray soon. Guess when we move back to the mainland I to will get to dive the quarries. Sounds like fun--LOL. That will be an experience I will never forget.

nice on the seal!

lucky you

i did have a great eagle ray encounter in Bonaire (at the Hilma Hooker). this huge
eagle ray came right at me, from right to left, very close. i kept snapping pics
until it dissapeared from view. then it came at me again, from left to right this
time. more pics.

unfortunately, i kind of suck as a photographer, so i only got one or two decent
pictures, no good ones
