I am a single diver and will be at the Grand Sirenis for one week next month. I plan on 5 days of diving ... Sunday January 4 through Thursday January 8. I have heard great things about a couple of the dive operations in Akumal, but I would like to avoid paying the full $10 for a cab ride each way (an extra $100 for 5 round trips). Is anyone going to be at the Grand Sirenis that week who would like to share a cab?

Jim

I was at the Grand Sirenis last January and loved it....likely going back in February One option if this thread does not get any takers....there is a dive shop on the resort. They were a great crew but I was less than impressed with the quality of diving (wildlife etc.). You could get that with anybody IMO. If nobody offers to share the cab, this would save the money and get you under water a lot still.

Thanks for your response. I have heard the dive operation on site is okay, and will definitely go there if nothing else works out.

My Wife and I stayed at the Grand Sirennis this last year and really enjoyed it, Well the food was okay. But I originally was going to dive with the operation on site but they were very rude to me. I then ended diving with Akumal Dive Center and loved it. It was about 25% cheaper (about 20 a dive) and they were great to dive with. We never had a group of more then 5 counting us. They would let you dive till you were low on air or computer limit. The DM we had was great, we told him things were were looking for and he would always hunt them out or take us to reefs were we would find them.

We would take the Collectivo (sp) It cost 2 dollars a person, you would have to walk to the main road to get on them and they would then drop you off at the edge of town. it was about a 1/2 to 3/4 of mile each way walking. The first day we had to haul our gear but after that we left or gear in a locker there.

For the price and the level of service you can not go wrong with Akumal Dive center.

My family is staying at the Grand Sirenis from Dec 21-Jan 4. We're going to be diving with Pro Dive Mexico. They offer a transportation service with a one-time 25$ per person for hotel pick up, for as many days as you dive with them. Their customer support has been exceptional in helping to get all our dives planned, and very quick with their replies.

Ryan,

Thanks for the info. How much time did you need for travel door to door?
