All, I have a group of 4 divers and 10 total (1 kiddo) traveling to Treasure Island, Grand Cayman for a week and would like to know a good dive opeator who could take care of a veteran, a couple mid'lin, and a newbe cert.
We are hoping to do 2 dives monday & Tuesday, a night dive one Tuesday, a joint snorkel and dive to stingray city on Wednesday, and then varrious walkings and 2 person 2 dives tips for the rest week.......any advise on dive opearatons or walk in dives?

I was on G.C. in december and dove with several differnet operations. By far the best experience operation wise was with off the wall divers. They only take a max of 8 divers. They dive seven mile beach and also have a boat in the north sound.
They customized a trip for us to the north wall. We did our "surface" interval at stingray city. That allowed us to do a full day of diving and not pay for an extra stingray city dive.
We also dove with divetech and ocean frontiers. Both of these operations were great, and, come highly recomended on this website. However, we much preferred the personalized service from off the wall.
That being said....they only dive at seven mile beach or the north sound. You absolutely must do as many dives on the east end as is possible while you are there. The reefs and sea life far surpass the rest of the island. This is some of the best carribean diving you will do. It doesn't come without a price, though. You get quite a bit more wind, swell, and current on this end of the island. The reefs are pristine here and the wall is enormous...
The only operation to dive with on this end of the island is ocean frontiers. they do all they can to make sure that you get to the right spot at the right time. even if it means burning a little extra fuel if condittions aren't right...
enjoy!

We love GC! We stayed at Cobalt Coast last time (about a year or two ago) and used the onsite DiveTech opearator. They had a lot of "walk-ins" and they do usually have a few more divers but we went in October so it never felt too crowded. You meet up at cobalt coast and they will drive you to another dock about 10 minutes away. We did all east end diving and it was pretty good. Lots of great wall diving on the first dive and shallower reefs on the 2nd dive. Most of the dive staff were british, aussies, some american. We liked just about all the them and they were pretty good guides.

Are you staying at Treasure Island Resort/Condos? If so, almost every diveop will pick you up there street-side.

Besides the above mentioned Off the Wall, try Wall to Wall divers or Neptunes Divers...Absolute Divers runs a private charter which might work out to about the same $$ on a 1/2 day trip.

"walk-in dives" (Shore dives right?) can be done at Sunset House and Eden Rock in Georgetown and Turtle Reef on the North End(West Bay?) Any of them are good for divers of all levels. Turtle Reef imho is the best easily accessible shore dive on Cayman. All of the above are on private property so you're expected to rent tanks from the on-site operators who've added ladders, steps etc. The water's free but getting to it isn't...There's also shorediving at Cemetary Beach, rent tanks at the diveshop in the mall in West Bay.

Other good advice above but Divetech being so far north, I'm not sure if they'll also pick you up. And Ocean Frontiers/East End is a 45-60min. drive one way from SMB.

Definately take the time to drive out to ocean frontiers at least one of your days. It's worth it!

Thanks All, We chose Off the Wall divers. I'll post how the trip went.

Excellent choice! Enjoy....

We got certified with Off The Wall divers in 2004. It came highly recommended to us by coworker who dive twice a year at the Caymans, and it's true that it’s a small op that runs personalized service. We communicated via phone before we left US, the boat always shows up on time, and it only had 6 divers max on the boat while we were there. Since we are certifying at that time, Danny allowed the other experienced divers to go off on their own after the briefing/get whatever bottom time they want to get while I get more "baby-sitting" from him (that was my first open water dive ever). Since I was a beginner (air hog!) I would always finish first and waited on the boat until the other divers showed up. One of the diver were diving Nitrox and I remembered Danny check his gas mix everyday. We dove the North Wall when the weather was good and stayed on the west side otherwise. Divers could request dive sites and Danny would manoeuver the boat for you, as long as weather permits and another boat didn't take up the site yet (obviously I had no idea the sites in discussion so I just went along with everyone else). Danny also had no problem telling me what I was doing wrong on dives too, which I much appreciate - now that I have been diving a bit more you will notice al wroundathe world a lot of DMs avoid educating guests on safety/etiquettes for the fear of offending them (don’t crash into reefs, stay close to your buddy, don't touch anything etc). He basically trained us to the point where we know how to navigate underwater and he let us go off on our own after briefing (just one week of diving). Pretty incredible considering I was so nervous on my first day of dive that I threw up during the surface interval (and the sea was calm as glass that day!)

Have fun in GC!
