I recently got open water certified (about 2 weeks ago) and have made a small number of dives around St. Maarten. While flipping through my logbook I decided mapping out where I have visited with GPS coordinates would be pretty neat. Having already moved back to the States from St. Maarten, I was wondering if anyone would have GPS coordinates for a few sites, or if this is common practice. The sites that I need are Big Momma's Reef (the shark awareness dive), Moonscape and the Tugboat in Simpson Bay. If anyone has coordinates for these sites I'd appreciate it.

Hi Brian! Is going to be kind of hard to get coordinates for dive sites, people usually don't give those away but if any consolation, you're not required and nobody keeps those in log books, I dive in St Maarten all the time and dives are too far to go swimming any ways so you may get an outfit to take you out, some great people there.....

Bummer. Not a big deal, I just thought it would be neat to put every site I've been to on a map.

I guess I kind of wasted the 20 months I spent on St. Maarten, having only been certified for 2 weeks before I left.

That is exactly what happened with the two dive agencies I dove with, neither of them kept any coordinates. I guess I'm just a dork for liking to keep track of stuff like this. :dork:

just get on google earth, most sites are listed and those that are not can be figured out if you knew where you were. I have coordinates for most of the dives I have done, in the past few years.

Doesn't seem dorky to me but then again people do ask us on the dive boat what we're doing when we're recording the dive sites in our GPS unit. :cool2: More often than not people seem to think it's a really cool idea and the Garmin goes with us on vacation anyways for Geocacheing.
