well i start class tomorrow but the place i taking my class at had a free discovering scuba so i fig i take it.

we was in a reg dive pool 4 ft then a straight drop to 12 ft

we was in the water for about 45 min but i do have a few question.

first off no pain what so ever until now about a hr later my ears hurt a little they started to when we came up but i stopped and and got the pressure out of my ears before i went on to the top.
was wondering if this is kind of normal for the first time under that long to fell a little discomfort in the ear?

2 my mouth made a lot of spit while under and it felt funny/discomfort to swallow was wondering if that was normal i asked but he said not to swallow but i felt i had to i was making a lot of spit in my mouth and i guess it a habit to swallow my spit.

other then that it was fun being under water and breathing. they didn't go over much with us at all pretty much just a few hand sings and how the BCD worked and the air worked

i sent a little bit of time on my own looking at the gages under water because i fig this would be the same stuff we used in class. the comp was pretty basic well i didn't do anything to but look at all the read outs.
temp depth time air compass something else just cannot think of it i knew what it was when i was looking at it

their was 4 people in the group 2 had their ow and was using it as a refresher
clearing the mask wasn't as hard as i thought it would be i never got 100% out tho always had just a little around the nose i think my air bubbles was causing a leak the dm had me clear the mask and was looking at the side around the jaw/ear when i was breathing.

i have to admit i was nervous going down the first time. i was having all them thoughts man what if i can't breath. what if ....... thinking i don't want to be the one having the problems and make everyone else time short/bad but everything went fine but the swallowing and now a lil ear pain i mention before

I don't know how you relieved the pain coming up but if you pinched your nose and blew you did the wrong thing. You should learn in your class that the Valsalva Maneuver (pinch nose and gently blow) is only used to relieve pressure in your ears when going down (descending).

It may not be your ears that hurt though. You have been carrying something around in your mouth for almost an hour and I bet you don't do that on land unless you are a Labrador Retriever who happens to know how to read and type. Your jaw muscles are probably sore from carrying the regulator and possibly biting down on the mouthpiece because you were a little nervous, this is normal. Try opening your mouth wide and see if the pain tends to feel like its below your ear lobes near your jawline. Gently press on this area with your fingers to see if its tender. That's my guess about what is wrong, I'm not a doctor but am an instructor and have seen this many times as well as experienced it when it's been a while between dives.

Hopefully you have a great instructor and they give you plenty of pool time to learn your skills and get proficient at them. The more effort you put into a scuba class the more you will get out of it. Good luck in your training!

yeah usually ears hurt on the way down, not on the way up!
