So I just received my Canon S90 and Canon housing. I am overall very pleased with both and look forward to using it in the water.

But I am wondering if the camera has a problem?

When I playback a video on the camera there is no sound. But if I transfer the video to my computer, there is sound in the video. So it is recording. Am I missing a setting on the camera that mutes the playback of video sound? I have read the manual and looked through all the settings but can't find anything.

Do I need to quickly return this one?

Thanks for your help.

The S90 shoots video? I be darn! I don't think the S90 has a speaker on it, I sure hope not.

Sure it shoots video. I really enjoy taking short little videos with point and shoots underwater.

So how about? Can you test your camera and tell me if you hear video sound on playback?

Every other point and shoot I have had plays sound on playback, from the Panasonic LX2 to the Fuji F40fd. This is very odd.

Problem solved (on another forum). The camera has a volume adjustment (press up on the top of the control dial). Make sure mute is off and then adjust the volume.

Glad to help. Here is my post from WetPixel which answered your question, in case someone else has the same issue:

Yes, it does have sound. The speaker is behind the four little holes right above the Playback button on the back of the camera. (on the back, just to the right of the ridge/thumb grip below the top mode dial)

Perhaps you just need to turn the volume up? Pressing up and down on the ring during playback adjusts the volume. (there is a little volume level meter all the way to the right, next to the scissors icon)
