Any tips for ID'ing which version of a gopro one would be looking at? I'm talking about the different 'models' of each generation like White, Silver and Black GoPro3 or silver and black GoPro4. Thanks.

The GoPro 3 series is differentiated by the color of the number on the front. The GoPro 4 series is differentiated by the silver having an LCD on the back.

If you're worried about someone having switched the face plates on a Hero3 or 3+ to pass it off as a higher model, turn the camera on and switch to a photo mode and read the megapixel rating off the front LCD. If it says 12mp, it is a black or if it says 11mp/10mp it is a silver/silver+. If it says anything else, it has either been switched to a lower mode or it is a white but to fully determine, it is best click through to the settings menu and find the max photo value available. Getting to the settings menu is fully explained in the manual.

Thanks flareside
