There so not seem to be any commercially made chin straps for the GoPro. I've used just the head strap for shore dives, but I'd like a little more security on boat dives. Has anyone made their own?

I made my own.

I had an old backpack, so I scavenged the 1" webbing and some of the clips from it. I also had some snaps and a snap tool that I had bought at Home Depot to fill in the gaps, so I didn't have to spend anything extra out of pocket.

The snaps are a little rusty, not stainless. I will probably go to MEC at some point and buy the required plastic fittings to replace the snaps. Pretty easy, really.

My brother showed up for a dive a few weeks back with a new GoPro, a head strap, and no chin strap. I grabbed some bungie out of my bag and a bolt snap and we quickly made a tether for him. It would not keep it on his head, but it would keep it from floating away and getting lost.

At the very least make a tether.

do you wear a hood?

Put the hood on, then pull the top part back off your head and put on your go-pro. Then pull the hood back on with the go pro straps under it. You won't lose your camera this way.

FWIW, this would not work for me unless I trimmed the hood opening well back on the forehead to clear my mask. I don't know what kind of temps the OP dives in, but when I wear a hood here I want that coverage :)

Another option is to use a thin lycra hood to secure the GoPro OEM head strap mount. A thin hood can be worn OVER a neoprene hood to secure the head mount and the lycra hood provides excellent sun protection on the boat, before and after dives.
